That Referee should take a hard look at the game he gave many wrong decisions particularly the free kick he gave to Barnet that led to the second goal it was clearly a free kick to Barrow as indicated by the roar from the main Stand, he should be sent to the national league till he gets himself sorted out.theotherbarrow wrote: ↑Sat Oct 25, 2025 5:36 pm Referee's first match in the EFL I think it showed...

Re: Barrow v Barnet match thread
I left Holker Street yesterday with mixed emotions.
Delight that the ten players had battled away to gain a well earned point but frustration that this squad is so short of natural defenders. It is costing us and will continue to do so until at least the January window.
We play a system that has a back three yet have only three natural central defenders in the squad (Raglan, Canavan and possibly Shipley) yet we have two players for every other position in the squad
When one of the three defenders is injured or suspended we have to play midfielders or full backs out of position, in the three. These are good players but not natural defenders, as shown by the two goals we conceded yesterday.
My frustration is borne from the fact that we have good players at the club. If we had signed two quality defenders, instead of players who can't make the matchday squad even when we have injuries and suspensions ( such as Booty and Cameron} then I really believe we could make the playoffs.
Someone got the balance of recruitment wrong in the summer and needs to hold their hand up.

Possibly going in JanuaryDA52 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 25, 2025 11:53 pm Stanway is keeping us in games with some outstanding saves. Today was no exception and I was right behind the shot from the Barnet lad that rattled the crossbar. Actually, Stanway got a hand to it to deflect it up. An incredible reaction. His value must be rising and no doubt he will be on the radar of some top clubs looking to invest in an up and coming young goalkeeper.
Good luck to him and I hope we will get a great deal when he eventually does move on.

Totally agree, we put Foley there as well I know he's good but he suffered back spasms last season and he's 39 , we haven't got a decent right back also Canavan he's had injury problems the last 2 seasons we'll have to look at this either in January finances allowing or next season !farington blue wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 1:10 pm I left Holker Street yesterday with mixed emotions.

Totally agree with you there Pedro! Came up with a Barnet fan yesterday who said he was quite a character & will say it how it is. So refreshing to hear comments like that from an opposing manager. Think he also knows Andy Whing quite well through meeting each other in the non league on a number of occasions.Pedro wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 10:56 amDean Brennans interview is a must watch
Very fair impartial .
He states with wind conditions he would have took the draw prior to ko.
Pity other Managers were not as impartial.
He says yes it's. s hell of a journey up here but they do it every week.
Decent guy but then he is Irish.
Lots of amusing comments on here as usual.
Why on earth should people be surprised with the attendance. Would have been surprised if it got over 3000 as its a long way for Barnet fans - yes I know its a long way for us to go anyway but Barnet only average in the region of 2500 for their home games so its not a bad effort from them. Apart from people like me trying to get up when I can from Manchester the population ratio of Barrow related to club attendances is not that bad - think there are stats somewhere that show this. The town is no different to anywhere else in the country really regarding this.
Other musing by me include:-
So where is Stanway off to in January? Any evidence at this juncture?
So why is Newby's "goal" an own goal - if so Casemiro's goal against Brighton should be an own goal. What are the own goal rules.
Will we ever end a game with 11 men again this season?
Will we play a home game where the wind isn't a factor before April?
Can we please win a cup game next Saturday (not too bothered about Tuesday's game - but a win there would be OK there as well)
On the subject of the FA Cup can we please get to the 4th round for the first time ever (think we hold some sort of record being for being knocked out in the third round the most of any club). Then can we play Manchester United away in that 4th round tie - its only a tram ride for me and I will wear a half and half scarf for that one in the Stretford End and I don't care what any of you think about that.

I was sat right in front of the incident. Smith was looking for a free kick the Barnet player didn’t touch him but Smith went down like a dying swan it was blatant simulation and the referee correctly booked Smith and awarded Barnet the free kick. Andy Whing said in his Radio Cumbria interview that to say that was the ref’s first EFL game he did okJayBee wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 1:08 pmThat Referee should take a hard look at the game he gave many wrong decisions particularly the free kick he gave to Barnet that led to the second goal it was clearly a free kick to Barrow as indicated by the roar from the main Stand, he should be sent to the national league till he gets himself sorted out.theotherbarrow wrote: ↑Sat Oct 25, 2025 5:36 pm Referee's first match in the EFL I think it showed...

The difference with Casemiro's goal was, it was deemed on target and deflected in off 1 person.andyg wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 3:04 pmTotally agree with you there Pedro! Newby's shot was on target, then got a deflection off a Barnet player sending it wide, before it caught another Barnet players leg steering it into the net.

At the game I wasn't sure if Stanway knew much about the one that went off him and over the bar, looking at the highlights it was brilliant reactions.
Anyone know why the Barnet fans were ejected from the main stand. I thought visiting hospitality guests sat in there and they didn't seem to be causing any bother.

Unforgivable. Give over. MJ has been top class this season. He's allowed a mistake and to be honest the bloke deserved a slap. Well in MJ... it got the crowd riled up and even the old codgers and mothers in the main stand were making it a hostile place for the opposition bench. I thoroughly enjoyed it.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 11:50 amIf that was the case MJ should have just gone down and let the ref deal with it. There is no place in the game for retaliation and punching a player as MJ did is unforgivable and he was rightly punished. He has let himself and the team down massivelyBig_Bluebird wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 10:43 am For the red card looks like their player plants his stood into mjs calf when he’s stood behind him grappling. Can see mjs leg bend forward as he sinks his studs in and is rightfully punched for it

Re: Barrow v Barnet match thread
Don’t know if hospitality guests they left with a friend who I think was a barrow supporter cos wearing blue scarf and hat I think. All looked mature gentlemen I only became aware of them when a loud cheer came from their direction when Barnet I think scored. As you say didn’t seem to be causing bother perhaps it was a pre emptive strike in case we got frustrated with our teams performance and we started aggro with them if they scored again lol.Sometimes home fans like to sit with friends who support opponents when have reunions most times no problems at all but I suppose potential for it is there .StephenD wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 3:52 pm At the game I wasn't sure if Stanway knew much about the one that went off him and over the bar, looking at the highlights it was brilliant reactions.

They were sitting in the stand with Barnet scarves on and gave a loud cheer when they scored, It is E.F..L policy away fans must be seated in a section reserved for away fans If any problem flared Barrow may have been fined for allowing them in the home section. I agree they were no trouble but the "Rules are Rules".StephenD wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 3:52 pm At the game I wasn't sure if Stanway knew much about the one that went off him and over the bar, looking at the highlights it was brilliant reactions.

Re: Barrow v Barnet match thread
I didn't know they had cheered when the goal went in, I didn't hear them from where I sat and can see that this would have led to what happened. In terms of hospitality do we not take bookings from away fans, I can't see anything that says home fans only and the price includes a ticket in the Brian Arrowsmith Stand.JayBee wrote: ↑Mon Oct 27, 2025 12:31 pmThey were sitting in the stand with Barnet scarves on and gave a loud cheer when they scored, It is E.F..L policy away fans must be seated in a section reserved for away fans If any problem flared Barrow may have been fined for allowing them in the home section.
