Jonty much as I admire your passion, you're dreaming if you think a council owned stadium would ever work ,we can barely afford to be in the EFL ,we need stability and a proper funded plan for the next 10 years without that nothing will change and forget that £200 million investment that's pie in the sky!Jonty wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 7:46 pmYou cannot guarantee success on the pitch. Our crowds are down, the atmosphere is as flat as I can ever remember it and, if, as you pointed out, the 1901 has barely sold for the next few games then thats a concept they’ll have to think about.Bombadel wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 7:17 pm
We’ve barely sold out the 1901 room for the next few games, surely one of the ways to bring more finances through the doors is success on the pitch, and then the popular side is next up for development with the garage being bought (it was mentioned at a qna a while back it’s a “carrot for potential development, with the impact of AUKUS on the town) look at Morecambe, much more developed ground than ours and attendances are dropping, also saw a hospitality photo of barely anyone there. League position first, then the popular side development imo.

I thought the 1901 Lounge had only been open for one game? (possibly 2?)

Nigel with all due respect, the solution to the issue you have identified “we need stability and a proper funded plan for the next 10 years without that nothing will change” is potentially within an opportunity with Team Barrow. It’s pie in the sky thinking maybe, but if there is an opportunity there, it shouldn't be discounted.blue nige wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 7:55 pmJonty much as I admire your passion, you're dreaming if you think a council owned stadium would ever work ,we can barely afford to be in the EFL , we need stability and a proper funded plan for the next 10 years without that nothing will change and forget that £200 million investment that's pie in the sky!

What’s your view on it? What do you think will give us financial stability and sustainability? Have you won the euro rollover?olbarrafancumbak wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 9:37 pmAt least he tries..blue nige wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 7:55 pm

Jonty that 200 million is to cover shops new forum and that will just about cover that, do you honestly hand on heart think they'll be anything left to buy land ,planning then to build a new stadium with roads and a car park, I think that's thinking positivelyJonty wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 9:42 pmNigel with all due respect, the solution to the issue you have identified “we need stability and a proper funded plan for the next 10 years without that nothing will change” is potentially within an opportunity with Team Barrow. So where's your details regarding cost infrastructure to build a new stadium?
Re: Rugby move to Holker Street
I don't think for a minute that it would be straightforward to do any of it, funding included, and the pace of change in this town I wouldn't expect anything for years anyway. I am saying that we should at least be enquiring as to how we could benefit. Even if it funded or part funded a whole new redevelopment of the popular side or Crossbar end. We cant continue without a plan for sustainability.blue nige wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 9:55 pmJonty that 200 million is to cover shops new forum and that will just about cover that, do you honestly hand on heart think they'll be anything left to buy land ,planning then to build a new stadium with roads and a car park, I think that's thinking positivelyJonty wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 9:42 pm

Frazer was asked the question tonight and talks have been happening and are ongoing but a new stadium is not on the cards. York City are paying £150K a season and only have part match day income to finance them, they receive 17% from the match day food outlets

Re: Rugby move to Holker Street
It will never happen there is a lack of ambition and vision. I honestly believe more would attend if we had better facilities, proper corporate boxes bars / restaurants/ maybe even a hotel. Holker street is the worst ground in the football league.
The club doesn’t have the vision or the mentality to think anything other than small. A team in league 2 with the converage that gets should be attracting sponsors and advertisers from big companies. The main money makers in the ground are all concentrated in the same area of the ground
The club needs a plan and a structure and something to aim for. I appreciate the money that has been put in but we need to move onto that next stage now of an established league 2 club with facilities to match and a mentality that we are where we deserve to be

At least the club is having discussions and talks have been happening so that’s a positive and something we hadn’t been told beforeBillyBlue wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 10:10 pm Frazer was asked the question tonight and talks have been happening and are ongoing but a new stadium is not on the cards. Perhaps the Q&A in March with the owners will reveal more

100% of £2000
Re: Rugby move to Holker Street
Thanks for the update and I guess an initial idea of the owners position on it.BillyBlue wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 10:10 pm Frazer was asked the question tonight and talks have been happening and are ongoing but a new stadium is not on the cards. Was there balance in the discussion, ie noting that overall they have benefitted financially from the move? Sale proceeds of Bootham Crescent for residential land- £7.5m, elimination of £60k per annum maintenance costs, modern commercial revenue streams opened up, welcomed to a new generation of fans- doubled attendances. So yes they are tenants in the ground, but have secured their future, they wouldn’t have done it otherwise.

It's ok until it all goes wrong when struggling at the wrong end of the leagues and the main benefactor gets fed up!

Probably helps that the family that own a stake in York are worth 700 million.
