Before we win we have to learn not to lose, I thought playing three at the back was supposed to be more defensive. It doesn’t seem to be doing us any good.

It’s only more defensive if you have wing backs who can defend and we don’t! The only way wing backs work is if they are full backs primarily but can overlap like full backs used to do! We’ve had plenty of ‘attacking’ full backs in the past and that’s what we need now.

Spot on, people are commentating on desire etc ,in January it's difficult unless you spend a fortune, Gallagher insists on 3 at the back so didn't sign either a right back or wingback ( think he thought Barkhuizen was the answer) did no one from the board tell him he isn't?
So we are stuck with this system to have any chance Foley needs to be thrown in we can't wait till our sports science/ physios decide he can only play 50 minutes or whatever we have to bite the bullet here I'm certain he'd play at the drop ot a hat if allowed oh for a George Ray or even a Feely these guys put their bodies on the line BUT our hierarchy keep dreaming about entertainment/ Barrowcelona football that was a one off !
I look at our squad I'd rip up the entertainment part and pick a boring team that'll block tackle everything and play a high press but I hand on heart can't see who that would be !

He might prefer four at the back but we don’t have a right back. I can’t help thinking the injury to Freddie Anderson might have put a spanner in the works after hearing Iain Woods was up until 2:00am securing the signing of the CH from Forest following Freddie’s injury. Sounded to me like the signing was forced on them due to the injury that keeps him out for five weeks

He isn’t and I didn’t say he was he is a CH but him being out for five weeks maybe meant club felt it left them short at CH hence the scramble until 2:00 am to sign Jack Thompson so he could play at Swindon . Maybe if Freddie hadn’t been injured we might have signed a right back. Who knows it’s all speculation and conjecture and only those at the club really know

I understand what you're saying BUT we everyone on here have known since around September our achilles heel 1. Right sided defender, solid central defender ( a bit like George Ray ), and a goalscorer, we got Danny Rose and yes I was impressed with Freddie Anderson but we're now stuck with this!

I don’t know if I’m the only one who thinks this but I thought Thompson looked abit lost yesterday every-time he got the ball he was looking to Canavan to see where he should kick the ball

Having slept on it and watched the highlights one thing sticks out. It’s the lack of desire to defend our goal when Notts scored. Not sure that has anything to do with formations as when we had the ball we looked good at times and our goal was from the best passing move of the game.
That desire to defend has imo been our big downfall. Not enough players willing to die for the cause, put bodies on the line, put heads in where it hurts, give rallying calls and demand 100%. Unfortunately in January we didn’t sign anyone of that ilk either

100% this. other teams know our Achilles all too well. Team talk v Barrow “they don't like balls into the box from wide positions, they will stand off you as long as possible, so you’ll get time to pick a pass or send a ball in”

Most goal threat and goals we've conceded have come from out wide yet we have players covering these positions that cant tackle. There was almost a third for Notts yesterday, Mcann and Smith literally static looking at the ball at the feet of the player who was left unchallenged, inviting him with a chance to send a dangerous ball across the goal which could have so easily been the third. He has got to tighten up at the back. If continues with this formation leaving us totally vulnerable to deliveries from wide positions we will continue to bring pressure on ourselves.

To be fair to Smith he has been the only one in midfield recently who has been willing to put a foot in and let his opponents know there in a game. His achilles heel is picking up bookings and his early booking yesterday negated his performance somewhat imo. His assist aside I thought Earring was poor. To often not tracking back and standing like a statue whilst opponents ran past him. Like many a lack of desire unfortunately.

Don’t they have technology to say when a ball has crossed the line

I thought in spells we did ok but let’s not forget Notts County missed a load of sitters some of them would have been easier to score than miss

We need to start to pick up wins and that involves everyone getting behind the team - if we better two from Harrogate and Newport and Shrewsbury we stop up none of those teams look like they might start to rip up trees anytime soon the worry for me is we still need to play these teams

Trying to get positive ( desperation) Foley back ,Gallagher mentioned yesterday about Tyler Walker if Gallagher get get his confidence back even 80% with him and rose they could be a real handful to be fair Walker holds the ball well and gets into great positions here's hoping!

TBH Jonty I’d say it looks pretty conclusive, without the technology I’d say 99 times out of a 100 that would’ve been given. We have had no luck with officials all season.

Scott Smith was much maligned earlier on in the season, but he's someone I'd want in the team at the moment.
