Out of the EFL and almost out of existence. The work done to holker street in the last 2 seasons is nothing short of a minor miracle, all things considered. Seems like someone's a bit salty about little old barrow being on their level these days. Lots of problems at Carlisle these days. Seems to be causing some angst....jaycarter wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 12:23 pmThat's total nonsense at least half of the seats allocated looked on to what would have been at one time terracing behind the goals, why did they not sell some of the seats that were blocked off, Carlisle should stop selling those tickets, regarding sitting in the seats allocated it would have caused more problems disturbing people to get to a particular seat, to me it made sense to just sit where you could, so your comment about getting a grip backfires Carlisle were at fault for selling these seats people will always try to get the best seat possible, I have travelled to every away game but one, we know our ground needs developing but give the club a chance we have been out of the E.F.L. for 48 years it will take some time to catch up, it was the worst ground I have been to for these reasons I stated above and I would guess your main stand opposite to away fans will need some updating soon.MilnthorpeBlue wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 6:47 pm Just for the record, from the west stand it was clear that there were plenty of available seats in the away section, the problem lay with the Barrow fans, who couldn't quite work out that it was allocated seating, as your own club pointed out. You need to get into the real world and understand that if all available tickets are sold then it's obvious you sit on the seat corresponding to your ticket, otherwise problems arise. You need to get to grips with the fact you are now a football league side and act with some responsibility. As for the poster who thinks it's the worst ground he's been to this season, I'm guessing you don't travel far, especially down the road to Holker St, a sixth tier ground at best.

We hate Carlisle United, we hate Workington too (and Morecambe), we hate Accrington Stanley but Barrow we love you
Re: Carlisle v Barrow match thread
Ok Milnthorpe Blue I can sort of see where your coming from, however to be fair to our Southern friends if they had asked the Stewards where they could sit and the stewards responded with 'you can sit anywhere' then most people would have done exactly that, and CUFC fans are no different, we would have done exactly the same.
When we played at Liverpool a few years back a bloke was sitting in someone else's seat, so the guy who had the right ticket for that seat went to complain to the Stewards. The guy was told to remove himself promptly and go and sit in his allocated seat or he would be removed from the stadium altogether, needless to say he was off quicker than Lewis Hamilton in a space rocket. So I think the stewards were somewhat to blame for this, if true.
However to be fair to them and CUFC, it certainly didn't look like it was a 'sell out', there were a number of empty seats, at the sides down at the front and even a fair few in the middle, so maybe they thought that they had kept some seats unsold so people could more or less sit anywhere they wanted.
Just a though like.

Truth be told, Brunton Park is an absolute dive. Even the East Stand, at not even a quarter of a century old, is an embarrassment. It’s never been completed, thanks largely to the madman Michael Knighton running out of cash.
The reason half of the seats look on to the open terrace is that the pitch was supposed to move in line with the new stand. Knighton running out of cash meant that this further redevelopment simply never happened, hence us being left with the bizzare alignment we see today. Surprised (and a little bit concerned) that the stewards told you to sit wherever you wanted. To my knowledge this hasn’t been the case in the past.
As for the rest of the stadium, it’s antiquated at best. When big clubs visit, they tend to like it - there’s a certain nostalgia to visiting an old fashioned ground that’s full of ‘character’. But I think that charm is over rated when it leads to significantly reduced enjoyment of the game. Our old main stand (above the paddock, opposite where you were sat) needs knocking down and replacing, and the terraces behind the goal need the same treatment (would be nice if we could realign the pitch in the process). But the problem is the flooding issue, and any redevelopment needs to allow for that in regards to impact on the surrounding residential areas.
Was nice to see a decent away following for a change, albeit a slightly muted one to my ears. I guess that’s understandable given the awful football served up by both teams. I felt we started well but dropped off after 20 minutes or so, whilst your long balls to Zanzala left him isolated and played to his weaknesses rather than his strengths. 0-0 definitely the right result.
Personally I hope we see you back at Brunton Park next year, but both clubs have work to do in January IMO. We lost key players in August and failed to use the money gained from those sales to improve on what was left behind. You look in need of a partner for Zanzala, and possibly somebody to pull the strings in midfield - though perhaps Mike Jones will make a difference there when back to full fitness?

Not the worst game this season, but certainly not the best either, I thought a draw was about right.
Zanzala should have scored earlier on and we should have put that effort from McDonald (where it hit the underside of the bar) away.
Interesting that a poster up above thought that somebody was offside leading to that incident, (not sure myself) but the said poster 'forgot' to mention we had an absolute stone wall penalty waved away in the first half, honours even eh??.
As far as the 'away end' is concerned, I do have to agree that it seems to cause all sorts of problems when there is a large away following, and why they simply don't sell season tickets to people in the block just across the netting, in the home end, therefore giving away fans a bit more space is a mystery to me, (it isn't as if all the home seats over there ever sell out).
However I have no doubt that when the 650 of us make the return journey 'down sarf' then there will be a lot of complaing from our fans about being herded into a corner with no doubt Barrow fans on either side giving it big.
Honours even then, the story will continue.
650? I'd be surprised if you bring 300.
Worst home support I've ever witnessed - and I've visited numerous stadiums from the early 70s.
Apart from "United" on three occasions that was it!
I attended this Cumbrian 'Derby'? - Over two hours on the train! - With high hopes.
The game was shocking! The Marras were there for the taking - worst team I've seen all season. Great support for Barrow but yet again the team let us down when there was an opportunity to build our fan base. Most of the floaters won't return. And who would blame them after watching that!
Both Zanzala and Josh Gordon missed two golden opportunities - 'sitters' - which would have sealed a win. The arrival of defender/attacking wing back Hutton brought cheers of jubilation from the Barrow support- you would have thought a top striker was being brought on. That's how bad our strikers are! Hutton livened things up a little but didn't see any of his customary flying up the wing to provide crosses into the box style of play. I recently read that Mark Cooper wants him to concentrate more on his defensive skills. Well, Mark; maybe you should go out a buy a couple of new strikers first. Hutton's attacking abilities this season have provided more excitement for me than Zanzala/Gordon/Sea put together!
My personal assessment after watching the game is that Carlisle are doomed for relegation into Non League. And - unless we can find two decent strikers - so are we! Our next game is crucial - Crawley at home. Lose that or drop two points and it'll be squeaky bum time.
Walking back to the station I noticed two rival gangs of fans squaring up to each other on each side of the street - the police were in the middle trying to calm things down. I managed to get into a pub and watched the proceedings through the windows. The majority of people in the pub were Carlisle locals and all were laughing at this Carlisle 'firm'. The police did an excellent job. Looking at the size of Barrow's mob and the height and build of most of the Barrow lads I saw those Carlisle 'fans' should be thanking the police and their lucky stars for not receiving a severe beating. Bring a puny mob like that to Barrow and I'd be surprised if they get out of the station!
'Cumbrian' Derby?
Somebody once called me a Cumbrian when working in London. I proudly informed him I was a Lancastrian. He asked: 'What's the difference?' I informed him that the postal code of my home address began with LA and that people in Lancashire don't talk funny.

Re: Carlisle v Barrow match thread
Interesting that you only heard ‘United’, Sam - I’m guessing this is down to the ridiculously bad acoustics generated by the roof in the Warwick Road End, which traps the noise created behind the goal. I was in there on Saturday, there were plenty of songs of varying subject (and standard). For what it’s worth, we couldn’t hear a thing from you either - as I said in another post on this thread I thought your following was strangely muted.
But if you’d be surprised by us bringing 300, you’re not familiar with us at all. Our away followings tend to be pretty big for league 2, particularly for Northern games. Morecambe, Accrington etc are used to us outnumbering the home fans when we visit them. Your ‘surprising’ 300 will make far longer trips than the south of Cumbria this season, indeed they already have.
The goons you saw giving grief to your lads weren’t actual Carlisle fans, they’re literally a bunch of chavvy kids who turn up to mouth off whenever there’s a decent away following. Our old firm (the BCF, which was more than capable of holding its own) seems to have disappeared and been replaced with these scroats, who tend to get their arses handed to them when things to occasionally go south.
Given the minuscule alllcation we’ll be receiving at Hilker Street, our following will consist purely of season ticket holders, so I cant see anything remotely ‘tasty’ developing. It’ll be as tame as Saturday was, unless some of your own decide to give it large to shorters, families, and old folk.

Carlisle will sell out the away end in March, and then instead of people moaning about which seat they can sit in it will be a load of moans that the allocation isn’t large enough

One thing’s for certain… we’ll have a bigger home crowd than they did for the reverse fixture.

With a ground capacity of about 5000 how is that going to happen?Dwayne Beresford wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 6:46 pm One thing’s for certain… we’ll have a bigger home crowd than they did for the reverse fixture.![]()

Amazing how many people think the LA post code actually means Lancashire, it doesnt ,it just means that you are part of the Lancaster postal area, it also covers parts of north Yorkshire.John_Bucks wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 7:03 pmThis does my head in.Sea Dog Sam wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 5:29 pm 'Cumbrian' Derby?![]()

Had a chuckle at the wind up “small town in Scotland” and “England” chants, misses is a Carlisian and she informed me about the old town hall clock in Carlisle which has 3 sides, the one facing north is blank as they don’t want to give the jocks the time of day. All good fun.

When I was born, Barrow was in Lancashire. So I am not a Cumbrian and refuse to be described as such.
