The Chairman's Interview
Re: The Chairman's Interview
My opinion a new pop side is needed, as we all agree. But just not feasible unless a cash injection
However your probably looking at 3 to 6 million for let's say 1500 seats, and 1200 rail-seat safe standing. You would need 8-10 hospitality boxes. 250-300 capacity lounge for before the match.
Long term it would work with under the concourse faster service for refreshments, naming rights to the stand etc ... But most of the revenue would have to come from non match day use, gym, community education rooms, business events etc...

The big job of rotating the pitch 180 degrees giving us a more workable footprint to future proof our current location doesn’t sound like it’s up for consideration anymore.

And what if Barrow Rugby say they want super league status but they need A,B or C ?
I hope I'm wrong but if you want a stadium upgrade, the bare minimum would be around £20, million to get 2 decent stands / facilities, then you'd have to include things for the wider community, that's the way that these people think ,I'm not having a go but some people on here should realise we represent only a handful of the local population !
So what’s your solution?
We need an upgrade , where are we going to get £20m from ?
We need to think strategically and don’t let the detail get in the way. All significant investment will come with a degree of difficulty- it just has to be worked through, otherwise nothing changes.
And, if you don’t mind me saying so, we may only get 3k on average, sometimes more , sometimes less, but this Club represents and is a national emblem for the town in a way that no other sport can be. The town needs a club with a facility it can be proud of.

To be fair I think rotating the pitch 180 degrees would only take seconds
Did you mean Ninety Degrees?

Re: The Chairman's Interview
The club just missed a golden opportunity to make some money by using the facilities of The Cross Bar.
Paul Kell, who runs The Farmers Arms, recently posted online stating that the pub can only accomadate 60 punters when live music is being featured. A few weeks later he posted that some music events are now going to be held in the Marquee tent at Craven Park in conjunction with Barrow Raiders. Many must have seen his posts on social media. Why didn't the club get in there first?
I know there have been several complaints from Hindpool residents concerning the noise at Craven park caused by music events in the past. After meetings with the council and Hindpool residents, only FOUR EVENTS are now to be allowed each year. TWO events have already being scheduled by Paul for 2025 and knowing him, if successful, they'll be many more. The Raiders may be refused a license to stage those events.
The Cross Bar is a far better venue and would be far more attractive to punters than a beer tent in winter.
Why doesn't the club approach him?

Re: The Chairman's Interview
The answer is simple. The Marquee at Craven Park holds more than the cross bar and the location nearer town is preferable to most too. As for the four events rule im pretty sure that outdoor events not Marquee events. The rugby themselves are advertising three events A£1000 karaoke night Sept 13th an Evening with Frank Bruno October 10th and a bottomless brunch Xmas Party in December. Im pretty sure they also use the Marquee in December for Xmas parties. Popular again as its close to Town.Sea Dog Sam wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 3:59 pm The club just missed a golden opportunity to make some money by using the facilities of The Cross Bar.

We may only represent a handful of the population on match day, but I would say that outside of BAE, both Barrow AFC and Barrow Raiders are the most deeply rooted institutions within the community. Both clubs play a significant social and cultural role, forging pride and a sense of belonging to the area. That is hopefully recognised by “Team Barrow” and can be tapped into as part of future development for the club.blue nige wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 12:03 pmAnd what if Barrow Rugby say they want super league status but they need A,B or C ?blumooncrab wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 10:48 am If the Government really want to grow the town , attract people and improve the quality of life then they should give Barrow a football ground to be proud of . That will help us stay in the league and goodness knows the Town needs/deserves it. Simples. A new stand & facilities will attract more people and help keep existing fans and allow larger away numbers. A virtuous circle. Love Holker St but it’s an early 20 century throwback - we need better to help us progress and I think it’s probably unrealistic to expect this can be done by our owners, who God bless them , will need to spend their money on the team .

Ever fancied doing a pitch speech to "Team Barrow" With wording like your last posting who in their right mind wouldn't take noticeJonty wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 8:28 pmWe may only represent a handful of the population on match day, but I would say that outside of BAE, both Barrow AFC and Barrow Raiders are the most deeply rooted institutions within the community. I've read that document how you can derive that we could benefit from the plan ( based on one photo) is stretching the imagination.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 8:45 pmEver fancied doing a pitch speech to "Team Barrow" With wording like your last posting who in their right mind wouldn't take noticeJonty wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 8:28 pm

It averages £10 million a year, seems massive but the cycle lane in Abbey road is costing £2•4 million,
These people civil servants etc have views far different to what we might see as obvious!
I really hope we could get something but it would take more that a few passionate words from Jonty ( no disrespect intended) to actually achieve anything substantial, if and its a big if ,you'd end up with a joint stadium for starters even then it would have to be a community involvement , before you ask I've met MP'S and lots of high ranking people and often come away wondering why I'd tried to engage with them !

The cycle lanes currently being constructed and those already done are not being paid for by this fund. That’s coming from funding allocated to Westmorland & Furness council by the Active Travel England’s fund.blue nige wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 9:06 pmI've read that document how you can derive that we could benefit from the plan ( based on one photo) is stretching the imagination.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 8:45 pm

We need to be at least round the table with “ Team Barrow” seeing what if anything we can benefit from imo.
Re: The Chairman's Interview
I should have said how many have we recruited and actually received a fee Rooney,Williams and Bennett all recruited from lower league and we received money.Leo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 6:03 amNone of our recent players are from lower leagues?Pedro wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 12:38 am Eventually we will come to a crunch point.
The Board have done amazing work.
Players are expensive thats why we need a good scouting system .
None of our recent players have been pulled from lower leagues.
The set up as it is reminds me of Galtieri Junta all want to have the titles but nothing comes through.
We had Ogden who found Bennett and Williams.
They did a job and irrespective of what they are doing now
we received fees for them.
It's about value for money and being smart.
The Council have given the Rugby money through sponsorship in the past all be it at a time when one of the Directors sons played for them.
The Council could come up with money they paid for policing at Manhattan night club for extended hours when they had the option to make the owner pa but they chose to burden the rate payer. .
But thanks to Paul Hornby and crew .
Spence? Acquah? Tiensia? Booty? Stanway? Raglan? Fletcher?
Aquah is the only one we received a fee for.
Who in there right mind would pay a fee for him only a man who makes Paul Simpson sound interesting.

That £200 million is a drop in the ocean for everything that's in that document, if they say proposed building a new theatre/ cinema, mini shopping centre, restaurants that would put a big hole in that budget the tender just to knock down the market / forum is over a million! Get in the real world!

Re: The Chairman's Interview
Its appears from what ive just read that both Barrow Rugby and Barrow AFC have been discussions with Lewis Pearson from Team Barrow regarding a joint facility. The minutes from February in the link below have the information and the minutes from the May meeting are requesting an update on progress.
